My guess is 5....unless the color of your room is the same base as the red. then it might only take 4. I had a horrible green in my bedroom when I moved in, and it took 2 coats of primer, 2 coats of paint (including cutting in) and 1 more light coast on top. Plus I used a REALLY good paint for coverage.
Have fun....I stick to light colors for this reason. LOL
